The fish counter at Knapp Mill is positioned on the Great Weir and Turbine House on the Royalty fishery on the River Avon. The counter is a resistivity counter which detects the changes in conductivity as fish pass over sets of electrodes. The counter is operated in conjunction with a digital video system which is used to verify and validate (QC) the counter data and to determine the species.

The counter has now been in operation continuously since feb 2006 (excluding short periods of downtime for maintenance).
